Major Lazer, Jack U, DJ Snake and a few other hugely popular DJ's have been using an interesting drum fill for a while now. Typical drum fills in EDM are snare or tom based. Usually with some sort of pitch shifting occurring or rolling.

I don't know who started this fad, it may very well be a smaller DJ that doesn't get the credit, but Jack U, Skrillex, Diplo (yes I know they are Jack U...) Major Lazer and even DJ Snake have all brought this drum fill to the mainstream.

I did some google searches for it and I have found very little information on how to create this type of drum fill which is why I wanted to show you how to make it.

Typically, it's an old Reggae based fill pattern swapped out with an ethnic instrument like a Timbale Snare or even Congas.

Check out the video to see how you can chop up loops to make them your own. All samples in this video come from our epic pack Snake Lazers V.1.
