ADDING WEIGHT TO A SOUND IN THE MIX

Have you ever had a sound like a lead or a pluck that just seemed weak? No matter how hard you compressed, tweaked the volume, or adjusted other elements in the mix to accommodate, it just wouldn't stand out in the mix.

I think we've all been there.

I'm using the term "weight" for this tutorial because to me it implies something other then loudness/gain. Think of it like a small boxer punching harder than his or her weight implies.

I was mixing a soundset demo and this idea of adding weight came up on one of the lead sounds. It is a really cool sound, but it wasn't carrying it's own weight in the mix.

I decided to create 5 dedicated AUX sends to handle the task of beefing up the sound. Check out the video below to see how it's done!
